I have the honour to transmit to you the

enclosed Bond partially executed by Mr.W.J.Solly, Postmaster

losure Driginal return

at Shanghai, in respect of his appointment to that office,

whereby he binds himself and one surety in the sum of ten

thousand dollars.

2. As it is customary to provide two sure----

ties in executing a Bond of this nature, and Mr.Solly who is a

stranger in Shanghai has expressed his inability to provide

more than one, I have the honour to ask for your instructions

as to whether this Bond should be accepted. If it is consid-

ered sufficient, the Bond should be completed by the Crown

Agents, for which purpose the surety there in mentioned, who is

resident in England, should be asked to attend at their office.

A certificate as to the validity of the Security should be

appended to the Bond before its return to HongKong.
